I am trying to put together a fundraising music benefit for the son of a dear friend to me who passed away in a wreck last month. I am not having any luck pulling together bands who will play for free.
My brain is frozen when I try to write the initial contact emails and I am just at a loss at how to phrase things in such a way to appeal to musicians to do this for me. Not even one response. It is too personal and I don't have the appropriate detachment to write persuasively. Ironically, I actually do this as contract work for various charities with great success. Now that it means something to me it is just not working at all.
My thought is to write a very appealing email as initial contact; then follow up with personal request by going to the next scheduled engagement on the band's calendars. It's the writing of it that has me hitting the wall.
My friend's son is little (9 years old) and he was working two jobs to ensure his son was provided for. Insurance benefits from the wreck are iffy. The ex (mom) is hostile so can't get help from that direction with coordination, etc.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!
